Hi all,

Can you please tell me a way to find out the list of SVC( supervisory calls) that are active in the environment. Our shop is with OS390V2.7 and about to get upgraded to OS390V2.10. Before the upgrade our system people informed us that SVC25 will no more available for the programs. They wanted us to be confirm that we are not using that call in our program.

We were not sure how we use the SVC25 in cobol programs it should be CALL 'somename' isn't? What is the corresponding 'some name' for SVC25.

Check SYS1.PARMLIB(IEASVCxx) member and find the EPName for all svc's. You can also check SYS1.SVCLIB for names of the load modules.

I appreciate your inputs. I am able to see only 2 members in SYS1.PARMLIB IEASVC00 and IEASVC99. When i browse both the members they contain the data like:

/* SVC-203-T2-FC00, (AVAILABLE)
/* SVC-204-T4-FC00, (IMS TYPE 4)
/* SVC-205-T4-FC00, (IMS ALT TYPE 4)
/* SVC-207-T4-FC00, (SAS 6.0)
/* SVC-208-T4-FC00, (STROBE 9.3 - DYNAMIC SVC)

I am not able to find SVC25 from this and also in our programs we use CALL ABEND, i think 'ABEND' corresponds to SVC13(Correct me if i am wrong)

Also, i got this information when i tried TSO SHOWMVS:

I assumed SVC25 should be used as CALL TRKBAL in the programs. Any suggestions?

I work with assembler, not COBOL. I'd be suprised if a COBOL pgm referenced the SVC directly. Would more likely be an assembler pgm that did a TRKBAL macro call.

I find SVC25 still listed in my system manuals and I'm at z/OS 1.4.

Bill,

Currently in my shop we do COBOL so far, when i came across CALL ABEND in our codes i asked my co-worker who is with the application for years answered me that it is a Supervisory call. So i came to a conclusion that even thru COBOL we can do SVC calls.

We have now found thru our system programers that statement CALL 'SYSINFO' deals with SVC25, so we are in the process of coding alternative program.
