DFSORT is an IBM product where as Syncsort is a Syncsort, Inc product.
Both are similar in terms, but DFSORT is rich in features. DFSORT has free access to its books online, the fully documented and supported ICETOOL utility.
Syncsort manuals are not available online and it's synctool is an undocumented , unsupported feature.
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Raja,
DFSORT is a sort product from IBM. Syncsort is a sort product from Syncsort, Inc. The two products are similar in many ways, but there are differences and I doubt that anybody could give you a full list of those differences.
However, to find out what's available with DFSORT and ICETOOL (a free utility shipped with DFSORT), you can access the DFSORT books and papers online from:
http://www.ibm.com/storage/software/sort/mvs/srtmpub.html
If you (or anyone else) would like some documents prepared by the DFSORT Team discussing what we see as the advantages of DFSORT, and migration considerations, e-mail me offline (yaeger@us.ibm.com) to request these documents. Please put "DFSORT" somewhere in your Subject line to catch my attention. _________________ Frank Yaeger - DFSORT Development Team (IBM)

DFSORT is on the Web at:

A feature of SYNCSORT that we like is the ability to do MAXSORT. The MAXSORT process breaks a large file into smaller sorts (based on user control) and then uses merge phases to create a final SORTOUT. And its all done automatically!
